This tour begins in the historic national capital city New Delhi. The tour then takes you to the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh. Here you'll explore the lush forests of Kanha and Bandhavgarh and view the exquisite architecture of the temples in Khajuraho. The tour will end with a visit to the UNESCO world heritage site Taj Mahal and some more monuments in Agra. One of the highlights of our tour is that at all places of nature and wildlife interest, we will select your accommodation close to nature, and at the most exclusive hotels and resorts.
DAY 1 and 2 -- Explore the historical city of New Delhi, where the past meets the present
Our travel counselor will meet you at the Delhi airport and assist you in your hotel check-in. Delhi's history dates back to 2800 BC as per the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata. Today Delhi bustles with remnants of the myriad bygone dynasties juxtaposed with the chaos of modern India.
It offers over a thousand monuments, bustling bazaars, and old capital buildings, including the present seat of the government (Lok Sabha) designed by the British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. In contrast it has some of India's most luxurious and modern hotels, markets and restaurants.
We will spend the first 2 days exploring Delhi and visit popular sites like Old Delhi, Red Fort, Jama Masjid (Asia's largest mosque), Humayun's Tomb and Qutab Minar. The highlight of our expedition will be exploring the busy streets of Chandni Chowk Bazaars by cycle rickshaw!
DAY 3 to 6 -- Sight the majestic tiger in Kipling country at Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh
We will start the day with a guided visit to the Taj Mahal at sunrise, the ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river. It was built in the 17th century by the Mughal king Shahjahan to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the wonders of the world and is called the "symbol of love".
We'll return to the hotel for breakfast and then proceed to see the other fascinating historical monuments of Agra. We will later drive back to Delhi airport for your onward or return journey.
DAY 7 and 8 -- Visit Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh, the best place to spot the Royal Bengal Tiger
Our counselor will assist you with the early morning transfer to Delhi airport for the flight to Nagpur. From Nagpur we will drive five hours to get to the Kanha National Park. After checking into your camp or jungle lodge, if time permits, you can go for a jungle safari or a nature walk.
We will spend the following two days exploring the jungle in exclusive jeep safaris with a private naturalist, both in the morning and afternoon.
Kanha National Park, located in the heart of Central India, is the forest made famous by Kipling's Jungle Book. One of the habitats of the majestic Indian Royal Bengal Tiger, it also offers a plethora of flora and fauna. This dense Sal forest mingled with rolling grasslands and meandering streams captivates ardent wildlife as well as nature lovers.
The highlight of the adventure at Kanha is the thrill of the search for the Royal Bengal Tiger in dedicated jeeps. Your naturalist will track footprints and alarm calls from animals like langurs and Sambar deer to lead the tiger chase. She will also share stories and keep you informed about the peculiarities of the inhabitants of the jungle throughout the course of the safari.
On the last day, we will take a morning safari in the Kanha Jungle, and return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, we will check out and drive 6 to 7 hrs to Bandhavgarh National Park, carrying with us a packed lunch.
Note: On Wednesdays there will only be a morning safari as per the rules of the park authorities.
DAY 9 and 10 -- Visit the ancient temples of Khajuraho known for their exquisite artwork
On arrival at Bandhavgarh, we will check into the jungle lodge or camp for overnight stay.
Bandhavgarh has the highest known tiger population density in India, which makes it a favourite place for tiger spotting. These jungles were long maintained as a Shikargah, hunting grounds for the amusement of the Maharajas and their guests, before being turned into a National Park.
For the next 2 days we explore the Bandahvgarh National Park by exclusive jeep safaris with a naturalist, both in the morning and afternoon. The early afternoons are free for the guests to relax at the lodge.
We will also visit the mystical Bandhavgarh Fort, India's oldest fort, which is spread across an area of 582 acres and is located on a hilltop.
DAY 11 -- Visit the monument of eternal love at Agra
We drive 4 hrs to Khajuraho after an early morning jungle safari and breakfast at the Bandhavgarh lodge.
The name Khajuraho is derived from 'khajur', which means 'date palm'. This town is home to the spectacular Khajuraho temples, which are a UNESCO world heritage site. Built between 950 and 1050 AD by the Chandela dynasty, they are the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples in India. They are famous for their nagara style architectural symbolism and erotic sculptures, and are made of sandstone in different shades of buff, pink and pale yellow.
The Khajuraho temples are categorized into three groups, namely the western group, eastern group and southern group. They represent life in the 11th century, mostly depicting the lifestyle of women in medieval age.
After arriving in Khajuraho we will have lunch and relax in our hotel. Late evening we will step out for the the sound and light show at the Western group of Temples Complex, which offers a lyrical introduction to the history and legacy of the Khajuraho temples.
